FRENCH DINING 2003

Upon arriving in Paris we always take the Metro to the Latin Quarter for casual and noisy dining to walk and shake off the stress and boredom of long hours of flying.

Here we are at the Les Argonauts restaurant  again. A crowded, loud, friendly inexpensive Greek place.  We dined on heavy garlic enhanced shrimp, mussels, fish, olives, crusty bread and a bottle of ordinary Greek red wine. Nothing fancy!   After several hours of Greek music, Greek dancing and plate breaking we walked out into the cool night for a stroll. The street lights illuminate  the streets and the gaudy cafes.  Totally charming.  We walked along the Seine River crossing the bridge to our favorite church the Notre Dame Cathedral.  The glow of the church lights reassuring.

We found the Chez Andre restaurant in Paris, France. A place with good service, local ambiance and good food presentation.  We were served  portions of chicken, veal, salad, cheese, appetizers, dessert, adequate  merlot wine and French coffee.  My dessert was a Rum baba.  The rum helped it. This place is an upper scale Brassiere.  We recommend it. Paris offers so many restaurants that satisfy all  tastes and prices. It's difficult to stick with just a few. Try Chinese, Japanese, Italian, German, Swiss, Mexican and so many more.  All with that French flair.

Sarlat La Caneda, France is in the famous  Dordogne  region. A scenic  2 1/2 hour drive east of Bordeaux.  This central region offers unique French culinary delights . We dined at the Auberge de Mirandol Restaurant located in Sarlat a  real medieval town. We began dinner with a bottle of rich red wine, tasty bread, salad and duck.  Duck is the food of the region.  It's prepared a thousand different ways. Don't forget a tasty French dessert with French coffee. The friendly staff added to the ambiance of this fine restaurant. The wines of the region are adequate. We suggest reds from Bergerac. Other local specialties  they offer are walnuts and black truffles.

The next issue will continue with more French Gastronomic dining and locations.
